Surface functionalized <scp>Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub></scp>‐polyacrylamide dispersion for improved oil recovery at harsh conditions

Abstract With the growing demand for energy supply and natural decline of oil reservoirs, development new enhanced recovery (EOR) techniques become more critical. Polymer flooding EOR is one most successful chemical methods but suffers many drawbacks at high temperatures salinity (HT‐HS) conditions. Superparamagnetic nanoparticles (NPs) have been recently investigated subsurface applications, including in EOR, due to their unique physicochemical properties. Their applicability under harsh reservoir conditions, however, yet be examined. In this work, a novel approach developed synthesize superparamagnetic Fe 3 O 4 with surface functionalization (SMag‐NPs) form stable polyacrylamide (PAM) dispersions (SMag‐NPs‐PAM). Both stability core experiment results demonstrate promising future dispersion. The SMag‐NPs‐PAM dispersion not only HT‐HS also show excellent capability by recovering, 61.72% initial quantity, which significantly higher than those from conventinal NPs‐PAM disperison pure PAM fluid.
